Friends enjoying Mid-Summer's Eve in Vista
I've spent most of my 49 years living in San Diego. When I first moved to Vista, friends kept asking me, why Vista? Then they come up to my home - and now they understand. There's still room up here - still places for kids to play and places to sit and watch the sunset over calm landscape. In the recent book, " 50 Fabulous Places to Raise Your Family ," Vista was voted #7 of the best cities in the nation. 60 Minutes rated it as having the best climate, and an article in the Los Angeles Times heralds the virtues of Vista.
Here's some reasons why:
Vista Real Estate:
Affordable housing and a wide variety of housing can still be found in Vista.
A sampling of homes in Vista:
This home is in the exclusive area of Buena Creek, northeast end of Vista. To get an idea of what the Buena Creek area has to offer, be sure to drive the streets of Hollyberry and Salem.

And then there's the south end of Vista, which is largely known as Shadowridge. A well planned community that is centralized around the beautiful Shadowridge Country Club. To get an idea of this area, take the Sycamore exit from 78 and go south. Take a right on Shadowridge, then another right onto Melrose.
Climate: Vista has an ideal microclimate! In fact, I've heard that its touted to be the best climate in the country. We have an average of 340 days of sunshine a year. The coast is fogged in most of the year, but Vista gets the sunshine. When you go further east - just past the Vista hills near San Marcos - you get the heat of the summer sun or the cold of touch of winter. And from where I sit in Vista, I still get the cool breeze of the ocean in summer. Not bad!
Location: The nice part of living in Vista is that you are right in between the 5 and the 15, so if you need to go south, you've got your pick. In 200,7, the coaster will be connected through Vista and then you'll be able to travel quickly and easily to the coast, downtown San Diego, and even Mexico. Vista's centralized location provides quick access to the ocean, the mountains, famous attractions like Legoland, and the Wild Animal Park .
The one thing about the location that I came to appreciate later, is that Irvine is just about 45-50 minutes for me. So if you have business or friends in Orange County or want to hop up to go to Disneyland, you might find the location here in Vista pretty perfect.
Community: Well maybe its just me, but I feel a sense of community here in Vista that I didn't have when I lived in UTC, La Jolla, Pacific Beach, or La Mesa. There's still a small town feel in a big town like San Diego. We also enjoy a total of 15 community parks - that's 6 times the national average. It includes theaters, museums, recreation centers, picnic grounds, athletic fields and specialty sports parks.
If you like living in a planned community, you'll want to check out the Shadowridge area. But if you want a taste of old and new, custom and developer built, small lots, large lots and ranches, horses, and hills, then you'll like the rest that Vista has to offer.
Entertainment: Welcome to our the growing community of Vista! Boutique shops, the Krikorian Theatre, the Avo Theatre, the Wave Waterpark (the only family water park in North County), and restaurants dot the village. But my favorite of all the places to go for entertainment, is the Moonlight Amphitheater hidden in the hills of Brengle Terrace Park. Pack a summer picnic basket, pull out your blankets and beach chairs, and get lawn tickets for some of the finest live theatre you'll find in San Diego. The fact is, that it's one of the best-kept secrets of Vista - people from Orange County come down for the performances!
Food: With the re-development of Vista Village, we are starting to get some fun and new eating establishments! There's the typical Chili's and Hennessey's. But if you like Mexican food, real good Mexican food, then I'd have to point you to La Paloma. Another local hang out with friendly help and lush outdoor patio dining in the back. If you want to step it up, try Dellz California Grill off E. Vista Way in the Albertsons shopping park, on the corner of Foothill.
Schools: I've had two children and seen the elementary, middle and high schools we have. Not my favorite part of Vista, but they are coming along with several new elementary schools being built. If you are considering private school, I would highly recommend Tri-City Christian off of Emerald Drive.
Golf: Shadowridge Country Club. The club offers great value and outstanding quality at reasonable prices. They limit the number of memberships and membership is by invitation only. So if you are looking for a local golf club - Vista has it. I even have friends that live in Carlsbad but choose to belong to Shadowridge Country Club - they love it!
