Education and Schools:  San Marcos Unified School District is the fastest growing district in North County San Diego.  The district is an award-winning district with over 7 schools with Distinction Awards to their credit.  In addition, you will find Palomar Community College, which was selected in 1999 as one of only 10 Vanguard Community Colleges in the United States.  It has wonderful classes for both adults and young adults, with distinguished programs in drama and the arts.  Then you also have the newer campus (built in 1990) of California State University San Marcos which offers the ambiance of small personal college, with the unequalled value of being one of the California State University Colleges.

Food and Entertainment:  Historic Old California Restaurant Row on San Marcos Blvd. offers an array of quality restaurants, including Chinese, Italian, Indian, Japanese, Mexican, fresh seafood, steak and a unique marketplace.  This, along with the 18-plex Edwards Cinema, makes San Marcos the perfect place to visit for a great night out. The recently opened Civic Center is located in the northern portion of the 60 acre Town Center on Mission Road, Twin Oaks Valley Road and Highway 78. There are also a number of cultural opportunities including theater, music and fine arts.

Golf:  There are three 18-hole golf courses within the city limits of San Marcos. The Lake San Marcos Executive and The Twin Oaks golf courses are open to the public and there's also the private Lake San Marcos Country Club.

Housing: Residential neighborhoods are abundant in San Marcos and architecture and prices vary considerably.

Recreation:
Six parks within San Marcos include Walnut Grove Equestrian Park, "The Barn," the Woodland Park Aquatic Complex, and the San Marcos Equestrian Center and the San Elijo Stables, for horse lovers.

Quails Inn at Lake San Marcos Resort: San Marcos is home to San Diego's only lakefront resort, The Quails Inn on Lake San Marcos.  Lake San Marcos features country club living including golf, tennis and recreational activities.
