My son at surf camp in Carlsbad.

One of the reasons I love living in North County, is because of Carlsbad!  Known as the "Village by the Sea," Carlsbad is located on the Pacific coast, 31 miles north of San Diego and 86 miles south of Los Angeles..The beaches are some of the best in San Diego, you've got the unique and quaint downtown village next to the water, schools are known for their high quality, there's LEGOLAND, then inland some of the finest homes in San Diego.  And of course, if you are a golfer, there's the famous Aviara Golf Course!

Benefits of Carlsbad:

Sought after residential location

Second home site for people out-of-state

Abundant amount of recreational areas including 7 miles of beaches

Architectural styles vary from turn-of-the-century to contemporary

Schools ranked amongst top in county

Home to internationally renowned Army and Navy Academy

21 miles of unpaved recreational trails
with future plans calling for another 68 miles to be built

Map of Carlsbad

Here are some of the things I like about Carlsbad:
Flower Fields:  I always love the drive on I-5 from mid-March through early May because of one of Carlsbad's greatest highlights -- The Flower Fields.   The 50 acres of blooming ranunculus is breath-taking and you can, for a small fee, walk through them.  You'll see lots of cameras out taking pictures, so don't forget yours!

Climate: Carlsbad's temperate climate adds to the community's charm. Temperatures average 58 degrees in January and 73 degrees in July with an average rainfall of about 10 inches.

The Coastline:  More than four miles of spacious coastline in Carlsbad offer clean, uncrowned beaches for swimming, fishing, windsurfing, surfing, and sunbathing.  A
long the beach bluffs near the Village is a seawall and walkway that is popular with joggers and strollers. I love to get up on a clear day and go for a run right there along the beach.  On a clear day, the view from the seawall extends south to La Jolla and north past the Oceanside pier to the sweeping bluffs and mountains of Camp Pendleton.  It's a great way to start the day!

Carlsbad Beaches

The Village:  If I ever left San Marcos, I've often thought of living down in the heart of Carlsbad, in the Village.  It has the charm of some of the European villages I've been to, offering the ability to walk short distances to get to about everything you need.   Its many antique stores and boutiques, sidewalk cafes and romantic hotels are just a short walk from the beach.

Jazz in the Park:
Beginning sometime in June, live jazz bands play free to the public on Friday evenings throughout the Carlsbad park system.  Jazz in the Park is a great time and place to meet with friends, bring a picnic, and sit back and enjoy the evening.  This is one of my favorite summer activities - don't miss it!

Carlsbad Triathalon:  Sports fans beware!  You're in for a treat.  One of the most scenic triathalons is held in Carlsbad every year.  The Triathlon ranks in the World's top 5 Longest Running triathlons. Beginning at Tamarack Surf Beach,  following the coastline of Carlsbad, past the scenic beaches, lagoons and wildlife preserve,it boasts a calm ocean swim, a rolling bike course and a smooth run for the finish.

Schools:  If you are looking for good schools for your children, Carlsbad has it.  No question!  Friends of mine plan moves specifically to Carlsbad just for the schools
.  I've given it thought myself!

City Planning:  One of the first things you notice about Carlsbad, is that it has the charm and appeal of a sophisticated community.  It's not too surprising that it has emerged as one of the leading cities in Southern California offering an enviable quality of life. The citys award-winning growth management plan calls for a combination of residential, commercial and industrial growth over a 30-year period to ensure that community amenities and city services continue to be available to it's residents.

Dining Out:  Although I live in Vista, you'll find me dining out in Carlsbad.  Some of the finest restaurants are located right in Carlsbad - from the Village, to the Outlet Malls, to Aviara and La Costa.  Some of my favorite spots are the Hyatt Park resort (especially at Christmas time), Tuscany's for live music and fine Italian food, Coyotes for outdoor firepits, and southwestern mexican food with live music, or maybe the Tuscan style Belle Fluer with the wonderful wine barrel room.  There's just too many good places to mention!

Aviara Golf Course in Carlsbad

Golf:  Aviara Golf Course
and Torrey Pines have to be some of favorite golf courses that I have golfed at.  Although Torrey Pines isn't in Carlsbad, Aviara is - right in the middle of Carlsbad, overlooking the Batquitos Lagoon.  Both Golf Digest and Golf Magazine have named this Arnold Palmer designed course one of the best resort course in America.  Carlsbad boasts yet another golf course at La Costa.  It's been said that the best thing about playing La Costa is that you can measure your performance against the best players in the world. The two PGA Championship 18-hole courses are both beautiful, traditional in design and home of the World Golf Championships - Accenture Match Play Championship.

Legoland:  Enjoy the convenience of Legoland right in your own backyard!  .Perfect entertainment for younger children between the ages of 5 and 10, when many of the rides at Disneyland scare young children.  Even parents are fascinated with the whimsical nature of Legoland.
